Designing With the Architectural Beauty of Travertine

People have been using travertine as a building material ever since the times of ancient Rome. So why don’t many people know about it? It often sits in the shadow of more popular materials like quartz and marble.

Travertine is versatile and gorgeous. We’re here to talk about how you can incorporate it into your home. Read on to learn more.

A Luxurious Pool Area

If you’re lucky enough to have an enclosed patio and pool, travertine is a great material to decorate it with. It calls to mind elegant Greek and Roman bath houses. It’s a timeless and luxurious look that you and your guests will love.

Travertine floor tiles are gorgeous in a pool room. They look great in the sun and they stand up well against both sunlight and water with proper care. Travertine can be slippery when wet, so if you’re using it for this, be careful!

A Stunning Bathroom

Do you want your bathroom to be your own personal oasis? Create a spa-like atmosphere by incorporating travertine.

An all-travertine bathroom is an option, but for some people, it may be over the top. You can have travertine floors, shower tiles, and countertops and create a travertine bath area (with a jetted tub if you’re really feeling extravagant).

You can also choose one or two ways to use travertine in a more conventional bathroom setup. Perhaps you have travertine shower wall tiles and a matching travertine countertop, but you pair it with linoleum floors for a more balanced look. It’s up to you!

A Contemporary Sitting Room

When people think of modern, contemporary, or minimalist design, they always think of plain white floor tiles. While this look can be nice, it can also be a bit boring. If you want something clean and contemporary that still has character, travertine is an ideal material for you.

Instead of plain white floor tiles, consider large travertine floor tiles. The tiles are still light and minimalist, but they’re also all unique. They’ll add visual interest to an otherwise neutral room. They also pair well with a monochrome furniture setup (white furniture and decor looks fantastic with travertine, for example).

An Elegant Kitchen

The kitchen is the heart of your home. Why not freshen it up and give it some elegance?

This material makes an excellent backsplash material. It’s chic and versatile and it’s easy to clean.

If you have a travertine backsplash, why not pair it with the same material for your countertops? It looks just as fantastic as some more expensive countertop materials (like marble) and it adds brightness to a room.

If you want to go all the way with travertine, you can finish the look with travertine flooring tiles.
